PRESENTATION OF THE BOOK “VALENTÍN DE MADARIAGA Y OYA, EMPRESARIO Y CAZADOR”

The Madariaga family and our Corporation, through the Foundation which bears his name, pay tribute to the president and founder of Corporación Industrial MP. The book to which His Majesty King Juan Carlos has written a prologue, was presented in the Alcázar of Seville.

On November 16th, the first book of the biography and hunting experiences which Valentín de Madariaga developed throughout his life, was presented in the Reales Alcázares of Seville.

The ceremony, which took place in the Cuarto del Almirante (Almirante Room), was officiated by the Mayor of Seville and was attended by many people from all sections of society, among whom were some of the members and directors of the Corporation.

The presenter of the event was the Onda Cero radio station and ABC newspaper journalist and collaborator, Carlos Herrera, who gave a general review of the publication and of Valentín’s life: his family, the company and his hunting.

His son Valentín also took part in the presentation, and acknowledged the admiration that he has for his father detailing his most familiar aspects, not leaving aside his enterprising spirit and his love and respect for nature.

Furthermore, our president assured that his father’s legacy was still expressed in our Foundation today, as demonstrated in the activities which are taking place now: specialised training for more than 400 students in our Cátedra VMO centres; the future prize of the same name which will support the enterprise culture; the promotion of research and development within Natural Science and its hunting activities.

The author of the book, Iñigo Ybarra, emphasised, the most important aspects of the elaboration of his work in a speech, full of entertaining and witty anecdotes.

For his part the Mayor of the city Mr. Alfredo Sánchez Monteseirín, who also gave a speech at the closing of the ceremony, predicted a good future for the Foundation and encouraged businessmen and businesswomen to follow Valentín de Madariaga’s example.

A Doctor of Industrial Engineering from the Universidad de Madrid, Valentín de Madariaga, was president and founder in 1966 of Control Presupuestario, S.A. He designed his own Economic and Financial Model (EFM) and introduced it to countless companies throughout Spain. He was president and founder of the Corporación Industrial MP.

A great hunting enthusiast, both in Spain and abroad, he participated in 196 safaris over 35 years, from 1966 to 2001. In 1977 he won the Weatherby prize for the best large game hunting collection in the world. During his life he hunted 354 different big game species out of the 367 which exist. His collection is unrepeatable today.

This first volume has been edited by the Fundación VMO, it was sponsored by UNICAJA and will be distributed by Editorial Planeta. It offers the reader an attractive view of the different areas in which Valentín de Madariaga excelled: pigeon shooting, small game hunting, national large game hunting, international large game hunting and hunting management. In the future we will go into other areas which are considered of greater interest.

The book, which is now available in bookshops, specialist gunsmiths and through hunting magazines, portrays the vision of a hunter who loved and protected the environment and his natural surroundings, to which the proceeds of the publication will be destined from the foundation which bears his name.

The Fundación Valentín de Madariaga y Oya (VMO) was established in April 2003 with the firm intention of supporting Corporación Industrial MP in order to promote action in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development through training and preservation of the Environment.
