Coinciding with the Milan trade fair, I would like to give you a brief account of our performance in 2000 as the year draws to an end and explain our objectives for the coming year.
Within the group, MP Environmental and MP Productivity strengthened their positions, while MP Lifts met its quality objectives for the whole range of products, although we still need to carry on this work throughout 2001 to achieve the degree of excellence we are striving for.
We have definite objectives for next year’s projects: machine roomless lifts, special lifts and a comprehensive range of components, which we hope to have achieved by the end of the first quarter.
We are confident that by further strengthening our branches and affiliates and guaranteeing service and product range quality objectives, MP Lifts will be fully prepared as an integral enterprise to rise to the challenge of the major changes that the sector is now facing.

Since MP promoted and subsequently founded, along with thirty-five other companies, the Spanish Lift Components Association (AECAE) in 1990, we have served on the board to ensure that we are present when European Union, national and regional standards are being discussed and formulated.
Major changes have occurred in our sector in the past five years, largely as a result of the new lift directive 95/16/EC, which was formulated without the involvement of small and medium-sized businesses. This prompted us to become directly involved in the work of the Ministry of Industry’s Lift Advisory Committee and Spanish standards organisations, although we believe that we must go further than this and ensure that we are in a position to influence European policy.
On 15 July 2000 we became a member of the European Lift Components Association (ELCA). Our membership application was immediately accepted and we were elected a member of the board representing the Spanish association (AECAE).
Our task in the European association is to promote support for small and medium-sized businesses in our sector and to be directly involved in formulating lift directives, ensuring that they benefit the sector in general and that they contribute to making it more innovative and dynamic.
