OUR PRESIDENT

Dear Friends,

In issue number six of this bulletin, I referred to the machine roomless lift (MRL) project as our great challenge of 2001. Now is the moment of its presentation and I would like take this opportunity to highlight just how necessary collaboration from the entire Research and Development team has been in order to successfully integrate the different technologies.

The MRL has been a complex project in which issues such as defining the different patents, whilst respecting those that have already registered, to meeting standards and tackling difficulties involved in combining electronic and innovative mechanical technologies, have demanded the highest level of collaboration with the ITA (Aragón Institute of Technology).

I hope and wish that this product may help small and medium-sized lift manufacturers to find their own niche in the market and in addition to other operations enable us to continue to promote our common projects. I would also like to thank all those clients who have worked together with us during the different phases that have led to the launch of our new lift, which is now yours to be proud of!
Best Regards,
Gonzalo de Madariaga Parias
President of MP

MRL LIFT TECHNICAL REPORT

MP's new machine roomless lift complies with all safety requirements of European Directive 95/16/EC, currently in force.

The most advanced calculation and measuring techniques and tools were used throughout the lift’s design and development process, enabling us to determine its final configuration and obtain highly competitive levels of safety, comfort and operation.

The electrical and electronic materials as a whole were specifically designed for this lift, paying special attention to comfort in the broadest sense of the word.

ACSL dynamic simulation tools, CADS, software for simulating mechanisms made up of combined rigid and flexible solids, along with finite element calculation with different dead and dynamic load hypotheses, led us to optimum designs for structural components, such as car frame, frame and supports, achieving high levels of comfort and strength.

From this point onwards, the different component designs were validated when integrated into the complete lift.

Strain, deflection, speed, acceleration and jerk measurements through triaxial accelerometers, MatLab and Labview data acquisition and processing software, and advanced tools for processing and handling large amounts of data, all facilitated the final structural design.

Comfort and ride quality merited special attention throughout the entire design development process. The characterisation of the installation through the measurement of vibrations at different frequency ranges with piezoelectric accelerometers and in-car dynamic analysers, vibration source and transmission elements, and modal analysis of critical components for the calculation of natural resonance, enabled us to identify problematic levels and frequencies.

Final car and floor noise measurements with acoustic analysers brought us to the final validation of the lift's target performance.

Also worthy of special attention throughout all phases of development was the design of a rational installation method, to optimise times, eliminate risks and adapt to current market needs.

An installation manual with more than 60 illustrations and photographs, and specially designed installation tools, allow for safe and proper installation of the lift.

This new product's design has numerous advantages compared to traditional lifts:

STANDARD HEADROOM AND PIT
The overhead machine room is eliminated and the machine and governor are located in the standard headroom area of the shaft. This allows full installation of this type of lift in conventional shafts.

STANDARD SHAF
Self-supporting structure, which does not require the construction of a special shaft. Suitable for existing buildings with no lift where lift load on the building structure has not been planned.

SAVES SPACE
Dimensional optimisation of the shaft via internal car frame guide.

SUPERB ADAPTABILITY TO THE SHAFT
Adjustment capabilities of guide-rail supports on both the vertical and horizontal plane, compensating for inclinations and irregularities in the shaft wall.

INSTALLATION: QUICK, SAFE, SIMPLE AND ADAPTABLE
Quick, safe installation of the lift using specially designed installation tools. Guide base, template to simultaneously position the four guide rails, supports to control verticality, adjustable scaffolding and guided mobile platform.

QUIET AND COMFORTABLE
Robust mechanical construction, high level of ride comfort, precise levelling separate from load balancing, and quiet operation.
Minimal aerodynamic noise. Elimination of permanent machine ventilation. Disc brake.
Stopping accuracy. The new 3VFMAC series of frequency converters with weight monitoring is included.
Incorporation of quiet switching elements in the control stand.
Very high switching frequency (frequency changer), practically undetectable by the human ear.

SAFETY/OPERATION
Control cabinet and separate rescue operation cabinet.

CONVENIENT RESCUE OPERATION
Convenient mechanical rescue device with low tripping effort, guaranteed operation.

SIMPLE, SAFE MAINTENANCE
Safe and easy maintenance with no need for access traps. Access to machine and governor from the car roof when flush with the last floor. Free surface, non-skid floor and safety mechanical interlock in car.

I would like to make special mention of the significant efforts of the different areas of the company; their actions and collaboration made the creation of this product possible.

NEW MONETARY SYSTEM

The 1st September marked the introduction of the Euro as the operative currency unit, with Mp joining the ranks of those companies already on the road towards the new European Monetary System. The economic worth of all company business is now expressed in Euros.

In relation to our clients, Mp guarantees absolute transparency during this conversion process and hopes to be of assistance to you in adapting to the new monetary system

Therefore, what for the rest of the member States of the E.U. on 1st January will become regulation at Mp is already a reality, thanks to the efforts of a team constantly working on adapting our company to a project common to all European citizens: One Europe.
