Barceló orders a heating and hot water system from mp biomasa for the La Bobadilla Hotel.

THE BOILER WILL USE OLIVE STONES FOR FUEL

This installation, an investment of two hundred and sixty thousand Euros, will meet all the hotel’s energy needs in terms of heating and hot water.

Thanks to the use of this renewable energy, the Barceló La Bobadilla Hotel, with its wonderful location in 350 hectares of tree-covered grounds, will reduce its annual CO2 emissions by 80%. The use of this biomass-based thermal system will pay for itself in three years and provide savings of 500,000 Euros in ten years compared to the present propane-fuelled system.

The construction of this distinctive project represents an investment of 261,000 Euros and reduces annual CO2 emissions by 80%.

Despite the considerable initial investment, thanks to the subsidies received from the Andalusia Energy Agency which promotes projects using biomass for fuel, covering 51% of the cost, the project will pay for itself in just three years. Additionally, within ten years, savings of up to 500,000 Euros may be made with respect to the propane-fuelled system the Hotel has used up to now. This project has been designed by MP Biomasa in collaboration with the Maintenance Department of Barceló Hotels & Resorts.

The new biomass-based thermal system implies that a silo for storing biomass will be installed, together with two boilers, of 400 kW and 300 kW respectively. The new boiler system, which will coexist with the existing system will be operational next winter.

This is the second time that Barceló Hotels & Resorts and MP Biomasa have collaborated on a sustainability project. The first one was in the Hotel Barceló Aranjuez (Madrid), in which a waste water plant treats the hotel’s waste water. The purified water is then used by the hotel for watering the surrounding gardens.
