Interchange Station of Andalusia. Special Projects: Engineering service from the initial phase of the project.

MP has been awarded the contract for the Vertical Transport System of the biggest Interchange station of Andalusia, in Mairena del Aljarafe, Seville. The system is composed of 10 lifts and 2 escalators.

It constitutes an exemplary sample of the capacities and advantages that can be achieved when MP is allowed to work with the engineering departments devoted to the technical aspects during the initial phase of the project.

ProJect

The project includes a wide range of public and private services and covers various types of areas:

  • A station offering transfer between buses, taxis and a future tram route (just a few metres from Ciudad Expo metro station).

  • 16,000 sq. m of three storey basement parking area for over 1,500 vehicles.

  • A business area including a Convention Centre and shopping centres spread over two floors above ground level.

  • Two towers consisting of 18 floors, 15 of them above ground level respectively assigned to a Grand hotel and offices.

  • A 16,000 sq.m. public square that the town council wants to be the meeting point of the near municipalities.

Project Design

The project design is led by EDDEA while architect Harald Schönegger is the project manager. The Galia Puerto Building in Seville or the Constanta Master Plan in Romania are both outstanding examples of this prestigious office’s work.

  

Engineering, Construction and Licencing Competences

INABENSA and SANDO lead the temporary consortium; SANDO holds the contract with regard to the whole project. 

MP

The awarding process meant a double challenge: on the one hand high level of engineering was needed, and on the other hand, the commercial difficulty of negotiating with an experienced construction company. It has also to be mentioned that both INABENSA and SANDO are references in terms of efficiency and reliability within their sectors. The team work and the cooperation between various MP departments facilitated the winning of such a noteworthy project.

The Special Projects Department has been required to carry out a crucial service that can  executed only if our product, work and regulation engineering are allowed to work within the project. After a number of technical consultations, it was decided that MP, experienced company in vertical transport, would improve the original specifications, optimizing costs and increasing the quality of service for the whole project.

This policy allows to analyse needs and offer solutions since the initial phase of the project, which is a distinguishing service provided in case of Special Projects.

Vertical Transport

The first phase of the project is the installation of both a double landing 1000 kg hydraulic lift in the platforms area and an electric duplex with machine room in the shopping centre.
In addition, a totally weather resistant escalator will be installed in the station and another one with tailored frames in the shopping centre.
The second phase of the project consists of the installation of a 1500 kg goods lift along with 6 passengers lifts with 18 stops. These units, installed according to the 3+2+1 arrangement, are equipped with complex access control systems and minimized average travel and wait times. As such this project represents a great opportunity for us to display our “lift intelligence”.

Deadlines

The first part is scheduled for completion by May 2009, the second by Autumn 2009.
